如果有緣我們會再遇見 // 反正地球本來就很圓
Translated, if we are fated to be, we will meet again, for the world is round.
As someone who is never anywhere for too long, it is a consolation that the world is round and we are always looking at the same moon.
As poetic as it sounds, the idea that the world is round means that there is always a possibility to meet that someone again. I always end my goodbyes with “see you somewhere around the world”. The world is a huge huge place, but I am sure our paths will be crossed again someday.
I look at the moon when I start feeling homesick or missing some people (people are home, to me). Maybe it is because of the poem (静夜思) by 李白 that I memorised since young. So I am always comforted by the thought that the person on the other side is also looking at the same moon as I am. Maybe, just maybe, I can send kisses to the moon and the moon will send them to my loved ones.
When it comes to love, it is more than just family and friends. Since the only long distance I do are flights and phone calls, relationships is not my forte.
They say, there was a time where mapmakers named the places they travelled through with the names of lovers rather than their own. Maybe one day when I am old and watching the sunset at my front porch or balcony, I could make a map with the names of my lovers in the world.
For me, my encounters are usually short. We always know that things are going to end. We know that it is not possible. We know that we should enjoy while it lasts. Perhaps because of that, I stop being attached to people and start to accept goodbyes. I also learnt to make the best out of everything I experience, be it adventures, encounters or people.
Perhaps that works best to my lifestyle and personality then. Great time and always ending on a high. I also don’t have to deal with the awkward “meet your ex on the streets” thing because well, I am never anywhere for too long. Also, it always ends on a high note. It helps to build amazing memories of cities and places I lived in, or travelled to.
You see, I will never settle for anything less than what I deserve. I don’t understand how some people think that their soulmates just live down the street. The world is endless, it’s huge, it has 7 billion people. I just don’t think my soulmate lives just down the streets, and I am going to travel and find the one.
Also, when you travel frequently enough, you develop a unique set of personality and traits. I have to admit that not many are comfortable with my personality. I usually connect very well with people who travel and of the same mind. And surprisingly I have met many of them! As always, it’s too short but so good.
I feel that love is something that you can’t control so I am not thinking anything about it. When I feel like someone is in love, I discharge that thought with the 21st century relationship, where everything is short and nothing lasts. Perhaps my own non-optimistic opinion, but I just can’t afford to fall in love. I fall too much and too deep.
If you think about it, everyone is just a plane ticket away.
